The Grand Hotel Courmayeur is a five-star accommodation with seventy-two rooms distributed and articulated over three chalets, a restaurant and a lounge bar (located in a fourth chalet) and a wellness centre. Being located at a high-altitude, the site imposed particular attention in the planning and management of the work, made particularly difficult by the rigid temperatures that conditioned the concrete casting and the installation of the screeds. In addition, the heavy snowfalls prevented the supply of the materials and the access to some areas of the building site. To overcome this last problem, the work on the garage was carried out earlier to allow the allocation of the materials to be used for the internal work in a covered area before the snowfall.Always in relation to the variable weather conditions, logistics were divided into stages:1) closure of the building with regard to the roofing and the external walls including the windows with special temporary translucent panels;2) execution of the interior finishes during the winter period by mitigating temperatures using hot air generators;3) completion of external works during the summer months. The roofing of the Grand Hotel Courmayeur was made in stone slabs, a typical finishing of the Aosta Valley, carried out by skilled workers located on site, to maintain a construction style, which is consistent with the landscape.
